What kind of Irish-Ghanaian would I be if I didn’t mention alcohol?
Generally, alcohol consumption is frowned upon in Ghana yet throughout Accra and Ho there are drinking ‘spots’ on almost every other street corner, colourfully standing out with wrap-around (un-paid) advertising all over the hut, shack or brick building that constitutes that particular ‘spot.’
‘In Ghana Spot means bar’ … part of the slogan for Club beer.
Guinness seem to dominate the brewing market here but Accra brewery is coming up strong behind. My favourite tipple so far as been Club which is light and refreshing – less hoppy than Star. A new comer to the my drinking palette is Eagle Beer, also from Accra Brewery, which comes in a more manageable size and is made from Cassava – also light and more like your traditional lager at home.
I will keep adding new drinks as and when I find them here.
